Choose a shot size to estimate distance
Choose a shot size to calculate distance for the current lens and height.
How the estimate works
This uses the 24mm sensor-height convention in Baimo Director. It is a framing estimate, not a universal sensor specification:
Frame coverage height = Distance × 24 ÷ Focal length
Ratio = Frame coverage height ÷ Subject height The ratio determines the shot-size band:
| Ratio | Shot size |
|---|---|
| < 0.22 | Extreme close-up |
| 0.22 – 0.44 | Close-up |
| 0.44 – 0.84 | Medium shot |
| 0.84 – 1.35 | Full shot |
| ≥ 1.35 | Wide shot |
A 35mm lens can produce a close-up nearby or a wide shot farther away. Focal length, distance and subject height all matter.
This calculator estimates vertical coverage. Check horizontal fit separately for wide subjects or group shots, especially in portrait framing.
